'Tis the Season

'Tis the Season

Tech the Halls, Spirit Week, and a FULL MOON all happening the last week before Christmas Break. Extra jewels in our teacher crowns this week my friends.

There are only really 3 options for weeks like this:
1. Call in sick at least 3 out of the 5 days
2. Be a Scrooge--question why you ever wanted to be a teacher and why in the world the kids are crazy.
3. Embrace it!!  Embrace it to the fullest.  Make it fun and engaging. Jam pack the days so they don't have time to act like nutballs.

This is only a small portion of my outfit for Tacky Day.

Option 3 for STEM Room 209.

Monday we did a little writing for an ornament they are making in their classrooms. And then they stacked red solo cups to make the tallest tree--without using their hands. (I should have taken some pictures)

Tuesday--Rudolph Loves Arrays--Helping my 3rd grade team out by reinforcing some multiplication skills.

The kiddos in action building their arrays.  Once they were done building, they took a picture with their iPad.

To finish up, they used PicCollage to combine all 3 pictures and posted their work to Seesaw for their families and teachers to see.

Wednesday and Thursday--Reindeer Research
I taught my first Reading Lesson (yes, STEM teachers teach reading too) using a Rooted in Reading unit.
OMG..it was fabulous.

Rooted in Reading: The Wild Christmas Reindeer and Reinde

I used the Fact and Opinion lesson to open our day.  There may or may not have been some students standing in chairs. And I may or may not have been standing and walking on my tables. (Thanks Ron Clark).    Side note--they were so in awe that I was on the table and letting them stand in chairs, their behavior was A MAZ ZING!!

They then moved into some guided and partner research using the non-fiction reader: Chronicles of the Caribou.  Tomorrow we will finish up research and create a mini-reindeer craft.
Materials I used from Rooted in Reading.

I hope you have found a way to embrace the craziness this week and engaged your students in some fun learning.

Merry Christmas,
Hope  (the worn out elf)
